The Bahía de Algeciras Campus brings together experts in the renewable hydrogen sector on October 29 and 30

The University of Cadiz, through the Vice-Rectorate of the Bahía de Algeciras Campus and the Technological Campus Foundation, is organizing the I RH2Enovables Conference for Industrial Defossilization – RH2EDIN 2025, which will be held on October 29 and 30 at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Algeciras (ETSIA). The event aims to bring together the main stakeholders in the renewable hydrogen sector —researchers, companies, administrations, and institutions— to discuss the latest advances, trends, challenges, and opportunities in this technology, considered key to the industrial and port defossilization process.

The scientific program is structured around six main thematic areas that address the key challenges of the energy transition. These include advances in solar and wind energy, emerging renewables —such as geothermal or tidal—, the production of renewable hydrogen through electrolysis powered by clean sources, hydrogen valleys and corridors, energy storage, and Power-to-X technologies, which allow the transformation of excess renewable electricity into chemical products or synthetic fuels.

With this multidisciplinary approach, the Conference consolidates itself as a meeting and exchange forum to promote innovation and industrial sustainability through public-private collaboration and cooperation between academia and business.

Plenary Sessions

The program includes three plenary lectures by renowned experts, such as Doctors Vicente Cortés, Francisca Segura, and Javier Brey:

  • European industry at a crossroads: energy transition and competitiveness, October 29, 10:00 AM at ETSIA. Presented by Vicente Cortés, Professor at the University of Seville and Honorary President of INERCO. He will analyze European climate policies and their impact on industrial competitiveness, as well as ongoing actions within the framework of the Clean Industrial Deal.
  • Synergies between renewable energies and hydrogen technology: industrial defossilization through microgrids, October 29, 4:00 PM at ETSIA. Delivered by Francisca Segura, Professor at the University of Huelva and Director of the Gabitel Chair on Hydrogen. The lecture will address the role of microgrids and green hydrogen as strategic elements for energy autonomy and industrial sustainability.
  • Hydrogen as a tool for decarbonization and industrial competitiveness, October 30, 1:15 PM at ETSIA. Lecture by Javier Brey, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies and President of the Spanish Hydrogen Association (AeH2). The expert will analyze the potential of renewable hydrogen to reduce emissions and strengthen the competitiveness of the European industrial sector.

All information about the event can be found on the official website:
